Educational Enrichment Programs
Through the nationally recognized Artists-in-the-Community Residency Program, Raritan River Music provides year-round interactive Community Outreach presentations for the clients, residents, and patients of northwestern and central New Jersey’s health care facilities and students (K-12).
The Educational Enrichment Program of Raritan River Music offers integrated – learning presentations—designed with educators, teachers, and guidance and enrichment coordinators— tailored to create cross-curricular connections for each class’s current unit of study, enhance class curricula, and help achieve state-mandated goals of the New Jersey Core Curriculum standards for various grade levels.
Through the use of music, these educational programs demonstrate to the students various cultural, historical, and scientific aspects of the world around them. By participating in music, they are able to gain a greater understanding of the influence of music and the arts on people’s lives.
Math and Music Together
Explores ratios, fractions, and other mathematic relationships through interactive performance and demonstration of meters and rhythmic patterns.
From Distant Lands
Traces the history of the guitar from the ancient Middle East, through the Balkans and Africa into Europe, and on to the new World. Included are discussions and illustrations of geography, history, literature, cultural migration, and musical styles.
Music in Nature
Emphasizes the connection between music and the natural world around us. One program focuses on acoustics and principals of physics in the production of sound. Another program includes discussions of weather, biology, rain- forest conservation and sustainable resources in the context of musical instrument construction and the sounds of wildlife.
¡Fiesta! A Celebration of Spanish and Latin American Music and Culture
Honors the influence of Hispanic and Latino history and culture on American society today. Discussions and demonstrations bring together various subjects, including history, geography social studied, and language skills.
Form & Structure: Literature & Music
Now under development, this new encourages analytical and language skills by comparing, demonstrating, and discussing writers’ and composers’ use of various structures in creating their works.
RRM has received national and local awards for these innovative offerings that serve to develop students’ critical thinking skills, as well as their understanding of issues such as tolerance, acceptance, and cultural diversity.
